Progress and Surveys
over 5 years ago – Sun, Oct 21, 2018 at 09:12:09 PM

Hi Brewers,

Two things to talk about today, the backerkit surveys and our progress on production!

Surveys

You may have noticed that the surveys have now all gone out from Backerkit - please check your mailbox - though you're probably reading this in your mailbox, so that may be the most redundant advice I've ever given. Anyway if you don't have a survey email, you can just follow this link to get a shiny new one:

https://microbrew-board-game.backerkit.com/

We have added some extra things you can buy to the backerkit - our previous games Carcosa and ORE-SOME - that we'd love you to check out. They're very different from Microbrew, but if you're curious you can find out on our web page www.onefreeelephant.co.uk.

There are also two add-ons as requested by our backers - a rubber backed mat showing the kettle and a neat bag big enough to hold 2 tins.

Currently we have 55% completion of surveys which, given that they only went out on Friday, is pretty good work!

Progress

There's two main areas we're working on right now. Art preparation for the production run and manufacturing of the special brew copies.

For the production run, we're currently doing the layout and final art pass on the files to be sent to the manufacturer. That's not very exciting to look at so I wasn't going to include a picture but Nigel says that he's "done nothing but look at Illustrator for a week, so they can too", so here you go:

Well isn't this inspiring...
Well isn't this inspiring...

For the special brew edition, the card and rules printing is (mostly) done, the wooden bits are here and the custom bits are coming out of the 3d printer as we speak so everything is on track!

Also, we can have a bit more fun with physical bits, so here's a herd of special brew elephants waiting patiently to be packed!

Look at their tiny little trunks!

If you like to be really in the loop about progress to the goals, feel free to follow us on twitter at https://twitter.com/OneFreeElephant but I'll warn you though, at the moment it's mostly Nigel complaining about the 3D printer (their relationship has never been the same since the upgrade) and my sore thumb from the corner punch!

Stay thirsty!

Solo Rules, Add-ons and VAT free shipping in Asia
over 5 years ago – Mon, Sep 24, 2018 at 01:36:26 AM

Hello Brewers!

Campaign Progress

The campaign is going well and we are about two-thirds of the way to the last stretch goal. It's a bit goal, but we have lots of potential backers following Microbrew (over 4000 at this point!) who will be sent a reminder for the last 48 hours of the campaign. This generally provides a big boost of backers.

We also have retailer pledges who are contributing a further £1500 that we'll add to the final total for the stretch goals so with both of those things and the things we'll talk about below, we should hit that final goal!

Please remember though, the more exposure we get, the more people find out about Microbrew, and that means more backers. As always, you can help too! You can like our BGG page if you have an account there, you can follow us on twitter or facebook and you can even use one of our little backer avatars with the characters from the game for a couple of weeks. Everything helps!

Solo Rules

We have been working hard on developing solo rules that are engaging, challenging and fun, and we've reached the stage where we feel we're very close to achieving that with a bit of polish and refinement! Nigel and I have been testing and tweaking these rules extensively to try and make them readable and easy to follow.

Mid-test!
Mid-test!

We have learned from creating solo rules for Carcosa, that the solo rules need to be fully self contained. Thus, the rules are written "from the top" - without assuming that people know the multiplayer rules. This does mean though that solo players can pick up the rules, and play without any requirement to having played through a two player game.

We are contacting a small number of selected backers who have expressed an interest in playtesting the solo rules for us and asking them to playtest over the next few days before we finally announce our solo rules and provide a link to these for all backers.

Add-ons

At the request of several backers we are going to provide two add-ons - a drawstring bag and a rubber backed mat. We asked for a sample bag, and it looks like this:

Not the most exciting image on earth, but it's definitely a bag
Not the most exciting image on earth, but it's definitely a bag

It will be 15 cm wide x 18 cm high. This is sufficient to hold 2 tins, the beermats and any add-on rubber mats.

The rubber mats will be roughly the same size as the beermats at 95 mm x 95 mm  with rounded corners and have the image of the kettle on them.

Shipping in Asia

Again at the suggestion of you fine people, we are going to work with VFI to arrange shipping in Asia using EMS small parcel/1st class airmail. Therefore shipping to Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, S. Korea, Japan, Indonesia, China, Taiwan will be VAT Free for individual backer. I have set up a separate reward tier for this and backers can change to this if they wish.

MicroBrew - welcome retailers, localisation and extra stretch goal!
over 5 years ago – Sun, Sep 16, 2018 at 01:02:59 AM

Hi Brewers!

Half way through our campaign and we're delighted with how it's going!

We've got a new retail pledge, a new stretch goal and localisations being worked on in three languages!

Plus, at the bottom, we'll have another  of Microbrew in the media!

--

Retail Pledge

Now the buzz is rising for Microbrew, we've reached the point were we can add a retail level pledge!

There will be a retailer level pledge added to the campaign and once verified the commitments we get from retailers will be added to the total for calculating when we hit the stretch goals!

This will mean we will get even closer to getting that last stretch goal as the orders come in. So please tell your Friendly Local Game Store to check us out and we'll keep you updated with the total including their orders as we go along!

New Stretch goal

Following some suggestions from you all, we are going to add a new stretch goal between the 2nd last and last goals. This one will add 2 extra sets of meeples and cubes in different colours to each game.

There's two reasons for this:

  • Firstly, it means that there are four colours to choose between so our colour blind or partially sighted backers can choose the combination that is best suited to their vision. (Don't worry, the stickers are staying too if that makes your life easier.)
  • Secondly, some people really hate stickers, so if you are backing the twin pack you can assemble your tins with different colours in each tin and when playing with 3 or 4, there's unique colours for everyone!

Rules in New Languages

Three fabulous backers have offered to translate the rules into Dutch, French and Greek! We've given them normal document style rules to help them and then we'll take the translation, get them proofread by other people and once they're finished we'll typeset them so they will be laid out just like the main rules. These will then be made available via download on our website and BGG.

Thank you Spyros, Robert and Benjamin for their support and if you would like to also help out with the proofreading and checking, send me a message!

Also, if anyone else would like to volunteer to do rules in their own language, please do get in touch!

Media Roundup

Although we're now firmly in the "mid-campaign" section of the kickstarter, it's still been quite an exciting time. Here's who's been talking about Microbrew:

Even though they are not doing our fulfillment this time, GamesQuest's blog has written an excellent review of Microbrew:

Kickstarter themselves featured us on their newsletter on Thursday and Sarah appeared on their "I think you two would get along." podcast!

Gloryhoundd and DrGloryhogg livestreamed their game of Microbrew last week:

And that's all we can remember right now (we really should write this stuff down as we find them).
